Are you a film or video producer?  Do you own the rights to distribute your footage?  Are you interested in receiving royalties on the outtakes from past productions?

We may be interested in representing your footage. The Source has earned an excellent reputation in the industry for honesty and prompt payment of royalties.   References are available from some of the dozens of producers we represent.

General guidelines regarding our representation policies:

  • What kind of footage does The Source want?

Professionally produced 16mm or 35mm film footage is still fine, as are some of the professional video legacy formats, such as Betacam-SP, although in most cases, we will represent professional HD digital video footage.  We would like to take a look at what you have and discuss the possibilities with you.

By looking at the category list on our Footage page, you can see what types of stock footage license.  For example, cleared business footage showing contemporary people in office settings or using computers is frequently ordered.

Keep in mind that the market for different subjects varies widely.  Thus, some types of footage will license more often than others.

We are open to almost any subject matter, including unusual categories not listed on our web page.  For footage to be considered it must be suitable for commercial usage.   Hence, we are not interested in any sexually explicit or otherwise inappropriate material.

Cleared business images are a hot selling item!!!

Any stock footage with recognizable talent should be legally "cleared" for distribution.  If you do not have signed model releases, could they be obtained?   Talent clearances make your footage available to the lucrative television broadcast market.

  • What are the basic terms for a stock footage representation agreement?

Stock footage is generally represented on a "non-exclusive" basis, meaning that the producer retains their right to use the footage in other ways while our stock footage library is given the right to distribute the footage as stock.   Our representation can generate income for you from stored outtakes that now simply occupy shelf space.

Please contact Don French, Library Manager at The Source for details on getting your footage into our ever-expanding library.  Call (520) 298-4810 or (212) 925-2547   or e-mail Don for more details.
